Privacy policy

What this site collects, what it deliberately does not, and the choices available to you.

The short version

Nothing you type into a calculator or the journal ever leaves your browser. No account is required and none can be created. Some of what you enter is kept, but only on your own device, and only where you asked for it to be — a saved trade, a broker profile, your account size. None of it is transmitted anywhere, and this site never receives it.

Two things here do involve someone else: Google Analytics, which measures how the site is used, and Google AdSense, which serves the adverts. Neither stores anything on your device until you say so. Both are named, with the cookies they set and how to refuse them, further down.

Who we are

TraderCalcs.io is the data controller for this site — the party that decides what is collected here and why, and the one accountable for it under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR.

For any question about how data is handled, or to exercise any of the rights set out below, write to contact@tradercalcs.io, or use the contact page.

Calculator and journal entries are never collected

Every calculation runs entirely in your browser. Account balances, position sizes, prices, quantities and every other figure you enter stay on your device. They are not transmitted to any server and not written to any database, because there is no server-side database to write them to.

Some of those figures are stored on your device, which is a different thing from being collected. If you save your account size, log a trade or set up a broker profile, that information is written to your browser’s local storage so it is still there when you come back. It stays in that browser. It does not follow you to another device, it is not backed up anywhere, and nobody — including us — can read it. The next section lists exactly what is kept.

This extends to analytics. Where usage is recorded, the event carries only the calculator’s identity and category — for example calculator_id: "risk-reward". No amount, price or balance is ever included. Search events record the number of results and the length of the query, never the text typed.

What is stored on your device

The site writes to your browser’s local storage. This is not cookie storage and none of it is sent with a request, so it never reaches this site or anyone else. Everything below is written only as a result of something you did.

  • cf-theme — whether you chose light, dark or your system setting.
  • cf-prefs — your account balance, risk percentage and currency, if you asked the site to remember them so calculators pre-fill.
  • cf-journal — trades you log: date, instrument, direction, entry, stop, target, size, exit, fees and any note you add, together with the time each row was written, which is what keeps two trades logged on the same day in the order you entered them.
  • cf-profiles and cf-profile-active — broker profiles you create, and which one is in use.
  • cf-consent — your answer to the cookie banner, which categories you allowed and the date you decided. Storing it is what stops the banner asking again on every page, and storing a refusal is what makes the refusal stick.

You are in control of all of it. Every store has a control on the page that created it to clear it, and clearing your browser’s site data for this domain removes the lot. Two consequences follow from storing it this way, and both are worth knowing: clearing site data deletes your journal permanently, and it exists only in the browser that wrote it. The journal’s CSV and PDF export is there so your record is yours rather than this site’s.

Who else is involved, and what they collect

Three parties. They are named rather than described generically, because you cannot check a claim about “an advertising provider”.

Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited for readers in the UK and Europe. With your consent it records standard usage data: pages viewed, an approximate location, device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site. GA4 does not log or store IP addresses — it derives a coarse location and discards the address. It is used to see which calculators are useful and where pages fail. No figure you type into a calculator or the journal is included, and the events this site defines have no field one could go in. Beyond refusing it here, you can block it everywhere with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

Google AdSense, which serves the adverts through Google and its DoubleClick advertising infrastructure. With your consent, Google and its partners use cookies and similar identifiers to serve adverts, to measure them, and to personalise them based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Refusing does not remove the adverts — it makes them non-personalised. Google’s own account of this is in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. You can review and change what Google personalises on at Google Ad Settings, and opt out of participating third-party vendors more broadly at aboutads.info.

Our hosting provider, whose servers process standard request data — IP address, user agent, requested URL — to deliver pages and protect against abuse. This is ordinary web server logging, it happens on every site you visit, and it is the one thing here that does not depend on your answer to the cookie banner.

Email. If you contact us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. It is used only to reply and is not added to any marketing list.

What is not collected

There are no user accounts, no registration, no newsletter sign-up, and no email capture as a condition of using a calculator. We do not sell personal data, we do not build advertising profiles ourselves, and there are no trackers here beyond the two described above — no pixels from social networks, no session recording, no heatmaps, no fingerprinting.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own. Every cookie below belongs to Google and is set only after you have consented to that category. The local storage described earlier is not cookie storage: it stays in your browser, is not sent with any request, and does not appear in this table.

None of them is needed for anything here to work. Every calculator, and the whole journal, runs normally with all of them refused.

Durations are the maximums Google publishes and are set by Google rather than by us. Google may add or rename cookies; where it does, its own list of cookies used in advertising is authoritative and more current than this table. Your own browser’s storage inspector is the other way to see exactly what is set.

Consent, and how to withdraw it

Before any Google tag can run, this site declares every consent signal Google defines — advertising storage, advertising personalisation, use of advertising data, and analytics storage — as denied. That declaration is the first script on every page, ahead of the analytics and advertising loaders, which is the order Google requires for it to take effect.

To be exact about what that does and does not mean: the Google scripts themselves are fetched and do run, so a request goes to Google whether or not you consent. What the denial prevents is storage and use — no cookie is set, no advertising identifier is read, and nothing is used to build a profile of you. Adverts served in that state are non-personalised, and analytics is counted without a cookie. Refusing changes what is kept about you, not whether Google is contacted at all.

A banner then asks. It offers Accept all, Reject all and Manage preferences, which lets you allow analytics and refuse advertising or the reverse. Rejecting is one click, the same size and in the same place as accepting — consent is only valid if refusing is as easy as agreeing. Your answer is stored in this browser with the date you gave it, and applied again on every later page.

To change or withdraw it, use the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page. The new answer replaces the old one immediately and applies from that moment; withdrawing does not undo what happened while consent was in force. Clearing this site’s storage has the same effect: with no answer recorded, everything returns to denied and you are asked again. You can also refuse everything at the browser level, and every calculator will work exactly as before.

Where adverts are served to readers in the UK or the EEA, the consent message is Google’s own certified consent management platform, registered under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework, and it replaces the banner described above rather than appearing alongside it. Either way the choices offered are the same and the footer link remains the route back to them.

Legal basis and your rights

Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, analytics and advertising cookies are set on the basis of consent, which is what the banner exists to obtain and what the footer link exists to let you take back. Server logs are processed on the basis of legitimate interests in operating and securing the site, and correspondence on the basis of legitimate interests in responding to you. Under the UK PECR and the EU ePrivacy Directive, the strictly necessary storage listed earlier needs no consent, which is why there is no switch for it.

You have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. Where processing rests on consent you may withdraw it at any time through the Cookie preferences link in the footer, and withdrawing it does not affect anything done while it was in force.

You may also complain to your supervisory authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office; in the EEA it is the authority for the country you live in. To exercise any right, use the contact page.

Retention

Cookie lifetimes are in the table above, and while consent is refused nothing is collected to retain at all. Google Analytics keeps event-level data for the period configured on the property — Google offers 2 or 14 months and applies 2 where nothing has been chosen — after which only aggregated reporting remains. Google’s retention of advertising data is governed by its own policies. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for the short period it needs them to operate and secure the service, and email correspondence only as long as needed to deal with the matter it concerns.

Calculator inputs, saved settings, logged trades and broker profiles are never retained by us, because they are never received. What you save is kept in your own browser for as long as you leave it there, and is deleted the moment you clear it or clear the site’s data.

International transfers

Google and our hosting provider both process data outside the UK and the EEA, including in the United States. Google states that it relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension where those apply, and on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses with the UK Addendum otherwise; our host publishes equivalent terms in its data processing addendum. Which mechanism covers a given transfer is a matter for their own current documentation rather than for this page.

None of it touches what you type. No calculator input, saved setting, logged trade or broker profile is transferred anywhere at all, because none of it is ever transmitted in the first place.

Changes

Material changes to this policy will be reflected in the review date shown at the top of the page. Contact us at contact@tradercalcs.io with any question about how data is handled.
