Crypto Profit Calculator

Calculate profit or loss on a crypto trade after exchange fees, with ROI and the break-even sell price.

Working out cryptocurrency profit is straightforward until fees are involved. Exchanges usually charge a percentage on both the buy and the sell, so this crypto profit calculator applies each fee to the side it belongs to and shows what the position has to gain before it is even level.

Formula: net profit = (proceeds − sell fee) − (cost + buy fee)

Your figures

How many coins or tokens.

Exchange fee charged on the purchase.

Exchange fee charged on the sale.

What this means

Buying 0.5 at US$30,000.00 and selling at US$45,000.00 produces +US$7,462.50 after fees, a +49.70% return. Note that the fees mean the break-even price sits above the buy price — the position needs a small gain just to get back to level.

  • Excludes network and withdrawal fees, funding costs and any tax due on the gain.

About the Crypto Profit calculation

It estimates the profit or loss — the PnL — on a completed round trip, net of both fees. It returns the amount invested, the net proceeds, the ROI on the amount invested, and the break-even sell price.

The break-even price is often the most useful output. It is the price at which the trade nets exactly zero after fees, and it is always above the buy price rather than equal to it.

Crypto Profit formula

gross cost = quantity × buy price
buy fee = gross cost × (buy fee % ÷ 100)
total invested = gross cost + buy fee

gross proceeds = quantity × sell price
sell fee = gross proceeds × (sell fee % ÷ 100)
net proceeds = gross proceeds − sell fee

net profit = net proceeds − total invested
ROI        = net profit ÷ total invested × 100
break-even price = total invested ÷ (quantity × (1 − sell fee % ÷ 100))
quantity
How many coins or tokens, which can be fractional.
ROI
Return on the amount invested, including the buy fee.

Fees are charged as a percentage of the trade value, so the sell fee grows with the sell price. That is why the break-even price cannot be found by simply adding the two fee rates to the buy price.

Solving net profit = 0 for the sell price gives the break-even formula. The denominator accounts for the fact that only part of the gross proceeds survives the sell fee.

ROI is measured against the total invested including the buy fee, since that is the cash that actually left your account. A crypto ROI quoted against the gross cost alone would flatter the result slightly.

Crypto Profit: a worked example

Buying 0.5 BTC at $30,000 and selling at $45,000, with a 0.1% fee on each side.

  1. Gross cost0.5 × 30,000 = $15,000
  2. Buy fee15,000 × 0.1% = $15
  3. Total invested$15,015
  4. Gross proceeds0.5 × 45,000 = $22,500
  5. Sell fee22,500 × 0.1% = $22.50
  6. Net proceeds$22,477.50
  7. Net profit22,477.50 − 15,015 = $7,462.50
  8. ROI7,462.50 ÷ 15,015 = 49.70%

A 50% price rise produced a 49.70% return after fees. The $37.50 of fees cost about 0.3 percentage points of return.

How to use the Crypto Profit calculator

  1. Enter the price you bought at and the price you sold at, or intend to sell at.
  2. Enter the quantity of coins or tokens. Fractional amounts are supported.
  3. Enter your exchange's fee rates. Many charge different rates for maker and taker orders — use the rate that applied.
  4. Read the ROI and the net PnL together: the first scales with the size of the move, the second with the size of the position.
  5. Check the break-even price to see what the position needs to reach just to cover its fees.

Limitations of the Crypto Profit calculator

Every calculation makes assumptions. These are the ones that matter here.

  • Excludes network and withdrawal fees, which are flat amounts rather than percentages. The fee calculator covers those.
  • Excludes funding costs on leveraged positions.
  • Excludes tax. Crypto disposals are taxable events in most jurisdictions, and rules vary considerably.
  • Assumes the whole position was bought and sold at single prices. For a position built in pieces, use the average price calculator first.

Frequently asked questions about Crypto Profit

Why is the break-even price above my buy price?

Because fees are charged on both sides. You have already paid the buy fee, and selling will cost a further fee, so the sell price has to exceed the buy price by enough to cover both.

Does this work as a bitcoin profit calculator?

Yes. Nothing in the arithmetic is specific to one asset, so a bitcoin profit calculator and an altcoin one are the same sum: enter the quantity, the buy and sell prices in your own currency, and the fee rates your exchange charged.

Is PnL the same thing as ROI?

No. PnL is the cash amount the trade made or lost, while ROI states that same amount as a percentage of the total invested including the buy fee. Both figures are shown, so the page serves as a crypto PnL calculator and a crypto ROI calculator at once.

Should I use the maker or taker fee rate?

Whichever applied to the order. Limit orders that add liquidity to the book usually pay the lower maker fee; market orders that take liquidity pay the taker fee.

Does this handle leveraged or margin trades?

Only the fee side. Funding rates on perpetual futures accrue over time and are not modelled here.

Can I calculate a partial sale?

Yes — enter only the quantity you sold. The result covers that portion of the position.
