Crypto DCA Calculator
Add each purchase to see total invested, total quantity, cost-weighted average price and current value.
Dollar-cost averaging means buying a fixed cash amount at regular intervals rather than committing everything at one price. This crypto DCA calculator takes each of those purchases and returns the average buy price the schedule actually produced, weighted by how much was bought at each level.
Formula: average price = total invested ÷ total quantity

What this means
Spreading US$1,500.00 across 3 purchases produced 0.04782012 units at an average cost of US$31,367.55. That average is cost-weighted: a fixed cash amount buys more units when the price is lower, which is why it sits below the US$32,666.67 simple mean of the prices paid.
- Averaging spreads entry across time. It does not remove the risk of the asset falling in value.
- Exchange fees are excluded — add them to each amount if you want them counted.

About the Crypto DCA calculation
That average is cost-weighted rather than a simple mean of the prices paid. A fixed amount buys more units when the price is low and fewer when it is high, which pulls the average below the simple mean whenever prices varied.
Enter the purchases and the dollar-cost averaging calculator works out the units acquired at each price, then returns the total invested, the total quantity, the weighted average price and — if you add a current price — the value and return of the holding.
Crypto DCA formula
for each purchase:
quantity = amount invested ÷ price paid
total invested = Σ amount invested
total quantity = Σ quantity
average price = total invested ÷ total quantity
current value = total quantity × current price
profit = current value − total invested- Σ
- The sum across all purchases.
- average price
- Cost-weighted, not the simple mean of the prices paid.
The weighting happens automatically. Because quantity is amount divided by price, a lower price produces a larger quantity from the same cash — so cheaper purchases carry more weight in the total.
The gap between the weighted average and the simple mean is a direct consequence of that. Buying $100 at $10 and $100 at $20 gives 10 units plus 5 units — 15 units for $200, an average of $13.33 rather than the $15 simple mean.
This is a mathematical property of buying fixed amounts, not a claim that the approach produces better outcomes. It describes how the average buy price on a DCA schedule is computed, not whether the strategy performs well.
Crypto DCA: a worked example
Three monthly purchases of $500 each, at $25,000, $32,000 and $41,000.
- Purchase 1500 ÷ 25,000 = 0.02 units
- Purchase 2500 ÷ 32,000 = 0.015625 units
- Purchase 3500 ÷ 41,000 = 0.012195 units
- Total invested$1,500
- Total quantity0.04782 units
- Average price1,500 ÷ 0.04782 = $31,367
- Simple mean of prices(25,000 + 32,000 + 41,000) ÷ 3 = $32,667
The cost-weighted average is $31,367, about $1,300 below the simple mean, because the $500 bought more units at the lower prices.
How to use the Crypto DCA calculator
- Add a row for each purchase in the DCA schedule, entering the cash amount spent and the price paid.
- Use the add and remove buttons to match the number of purchases you actually made.
- Optionally enter a current price to see what the holding is worth and what it has returned.
- Compare the weighted average with the simple mean shown beneath it — the gap shows the effect of the varying prices.
Limitations of the Crypto DCA calculator
Every calculation makes assumptions. These are the ones that matter here.
- Excludes exchange fees. Add them to each amount if you want them included in the cost basis.
- This page keeps nothing: the values disappear when it closes. The trade journal on the site is the place to keep a record, and it saves to your own browser rather than to a server.
- Does not model tax. Many jurisdictions require specific matching rules rather than a simple average cost basis.
- Averaging spreads entry across time. It does not reduce the risk of the asset falling in value.
Frequently asked questions about Crypto DCA
Why is my average buy price lower than the average of the prices I paid?
Because a DCA schedule spends a fixed cash amount, which buys more units at lower prices. Those larger quantities carry more weight in the total, pulling the average buy price below the simple mean of the prices.
Does DCA guarantee a better result than buying all at once?
No. It produces a different average entry price, which is better in some price paths and worse in others. If the price rises steadily from the start, a single early purchase results in a lower average.
Does this work as a bitcoin DCA calculator?
Yes. The maths does not depend on the asset, so a bitcoin DCA calculator and one for any other coin run the same sum — enter the cash spent and the price paid for each buy, whatever the ticker.
Should I include exchange fees?
If you want the cost basis to reflect what you actually paid, add each fee to that purchase's amount. The calculator treats the amount entered as the full cost.
How is this different from the average price calculator?
This one takes the cash amount spent and derives the quantity. The average price calculator takes the quantity directly, and can also solve for how much more to buy to reach a target average.
Are my figures stored anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser, nothing is sent to a server, and no purchases are saved between visits. Closing the page discards them, so keep your own record of the figures you enter.
